The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT, Minister PARK Sang-woo) announced last month (01:00 a.m. 26 February 2025,

KST) that Hyundai Rotem won contracts to supply 240 inter-city metro railcars and 200 intra-city ones among the four types of railcar supply projects ordered by the Moroccan National Railways Office (ONCF: Office National des Chemins de Fer in French).


Since July 2024, Morocco has been carrying out the project to supply four types of railcars worth a total budget of KRW 5 trillion* in order to

ensure stable passenger transportation during the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the country will co-host along with Spain and Portugal.


* For a total of 904 railcars, including ① 144 high-speed railcars (320 km/h), ② 320 semi-high-speed railcars (200 km/h), ③ 240 intercity metro cars (160 km/h), and ④ 200 intra-city metro cars (160 km/h)


Among these, the two types of metro railcars were ordered by the Korean company with the total amount of KRW 2.2 trillion, including 1.2

trillion won for the intercity railcars and 1 trillion won for the intracity ones.
