Korean railway service is set to be enhanced its convenience for international visitors by integrated booking platforms while expanding
interconnected luggage delivery service of Rail & Air and promoting linked regional services
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT, Minister PARK Sang-woo) and Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL, CEO HAN
Moon-hee) announced that the number of foreign tourists using regular and high-speed trains in South Korea increased by 50.2% in the first seven months of 2024 compared to the same period last year. This rise follows the expansion of rail ticket booking services across multiple
platforms for foreign visitors.
* Out of the 9.11 million foreign visitors to Korea, approximately 2.32 million, or 25%, used regular and high-speed trains
Chinese-speaking tourists, including those from China and Taiwan, have particularly contributed to this growth through their advance
reservations on mobile apps, with the number of train users reaching 182,000 from January to July 2024, marking a 204% year-on-year
increase.
The increase seems to be attributed to ongoing strengthened partnerships with global travel platforms like Trip.com working in line with the increase in the number of overseas tourists, which have made it easier for foreign tourists to book railway tickets.
